Vintage Seiko 7009-5010 Automatic Wristwatch

A very nice and restored to perfect functionality Vintage Seiko 7009-5010 Automatic Wristwatch directly from tthe 70s, that will wear very well in both formal and casual occasions, complementing your outfit discretely but still making a statement.

This Vintage Seiko 7009-5010 Automatic Wristwatch was manufactured in the 70s, so the design recalls that period very well: the squared shape of the glass and case makes it look a bit odd on the wrist if compared to more modern watches, but it suits incredibly well with a polo and jeans outfit strolling under the summer sun.

The Seiko 7009a movement is a real workhorse: robust and regular in its beat, once started it will not stop until the power is fully depleted, always keeping excellent time till the very end. The automatic winding is just incredible: with the lightest movement of your wrist it will power up the watch instantly, making it tick as soon as you pick it up from the desk top. The date and day complication works perfectly too: it changes when it should with a sharp movement, never hesitating and it is perfectly legible through the dedicated aperture at 3 o’clock.

The bracelet, although not belonging to this particular watch, is an original Seiko metal bracelet, in very good condition and holds the watch to the wrist very comfortably. It has all the extra links one would need to make it fit even on the largest of wrists.

The acrylic glass has seen some bumps on walls and door knobs probably, but once polished it returned to almost its original state. A couple of scratches are still visible if you look really close, but they never detract from the time telling and contribute to the history of the watch. This is a watch that was manufactured some 40 years ago, after all.

The dial is also in perfect condition: the applied indexes are shiny and relevant enough to be visible from all angles, but not too large. They are just the perfect size and shape to tell the time at a glance. The hands are in perfect condition, and the Lume is still visible after a short time of exposure under a bright light.

Things we like about this watch:

The blatant call to the 70s is what appeals us the most in this watch: the shape of the watch case on this Seiko 7009-5010 automatic watch is something that will wear well on any occasion, both formal and casual. The automatic Seiko 5 movement is just the quintessence of workmanship master watchmakers in Japan could ever manufacture: when it starts, it will never stop, no matter how hard you try.

Things we don’t like about this watch:

The watch has had some rough times, sure, and the various dents and scratches surely show this. It is a 40+ years old watch after all. Still the non-original (although Seiko original) bracelet is something that many could frown upon: it fits well, completes the design of the watch as you would expect, and it is fairly comfortable, but it is not the bracelet that originally was delivered with this watch, and this is a pity.
