Description

You really have to sit down, relax and admire this beautiful Vintage Seiko 7A48-7000 Quartz Chronograph. This is a watch with a lot of history (someone calls them scratches…), but still incredibly beautiful.

The Vintage Seiko 7A48-7000 Quartz Chronograph was the first quartz chronograph with a Moon Phase Seiko manufactured, and boy did they get it just right the first time!

The presence of the 4 dials (the usual 3 for running seconds at 6, the chronograph seconds at 3 and the chronograph minutes at 9 typical of the 7Axx series of chronographs), which now include a date complication at 12 in the form of a hand (and not an aperture in the dial like the less loved 7A34 models) with a working moon phase complication does make it seem a bit busy, but the proportions of the 4 dials are just perfect.

The roman numerals on the inner bezel and the leaf hands, together with the dual tone (stainless steel and gold plating) of the case make this chronograph look very classy indeed, yet it will suit also any jeans-and-T-shirt as well as a dress event just perfectly. An incredible addition to anyone’s collection, or the perfect daily wearer for the office, with style. Your choice.

Things we like about this watch:

Moon phase. These two words alone make this watch special. But the Vintage Seiko 7A48-7000 Quartz Chronograph sold here is not only this: the movement is the first quartz analog chronograph ever manufactured. The watch has seen some wear, of course, but it is still in great condition and we replaced the mineral glass with  a new one, to do justice to the amazing dial. The pushers are smooth, but solid, and the bracelet is a bit stretched, but firm and secure.

Things we don’t like about this watch:

This Vintage Seiko 7A48-7000 Quartz Chronograph has really seen a lot of use, judging from the scratches on the case, the bracelet and clasp. We do not like buffing out these signs, since we believe they are a part of the history of the watch itself. Yet, someone may refrain seeing some dents on the case and bezel. The bezel is also a weak point of this watch: the gold plating is worn off with wear under shit cuffs, and has probably seen a couple of falls on hard floor, producing some dents, but nothing too dramatic, really. The inner bezel is, though, broken at 3. If you blink you miss the hairline of the crack, but it is still there, and we have to point it out.

The armband is somewhat stretched, making it a bit rattling and loose, but it offers a comfortable wear nonetheless.

This Vintage Seiko 7A48-7000 Quartz Chronograph is an amazing timepiece, a great conversation starter, a nice addition to anyone’s collection, an amazing technical feat of the 80’s. You’d be wrong if you thought this is a “let go”. Get it while you can, they are becoming rarer by the day.
